Forum Title: Securing Larger Newel Post?
I have a few larger newel posts that have to be installed on a remodel. 5 1/2 newels. No access underneath. I am planning on doing the sure tite fasteners that lag into the floor and have a threaded rod on the top side (about an inch of threaded rod on top) My questions is what do you guys use to tighten the nut? I cannot fit a wrench in the 1 1/2 diameter access hole that the directions say to drill. Normally this would be fine on a 3 newel but on a 5 1/2 newel it is too deep in the newel to be able to turn the wrench. The only thing I can come up with is drilling a 2 access hole. I am trying to get away from drilling this big of a hole but cant think of any other way to tighten it? What are you guys doing in this situation? No L brackets can be used on this installation.
